Sue L. Allen, 56, of Tripoli, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 14th, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
Sue Lynn, daughter of William and Barbara Hesse Seelhammer, was born May 15, 1958, at Waverly, Iowa. She was baptized June 1, 1958, and confirmed April 15, 1973, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. Sue received her education in the Tripoli Schools, graduating from Tripoli High School in 1976. She then attended American Institute of Commerce and graduated with an associate’s degree and a legal assistant degree. Sue was married to Robert Allen in 1976, and later divorced. She worked as an accidental death and disability claims specialist at CUNA in Waverly for eighteen years. She later owned and operated “The Hub” in Tripoli for six years, and most recently, was second shift supervisor of environmental services at the Waverly Hospital. She served on the Tripoli Ambulance Crew for nine years, was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, was a member of Abate of Iowa, played slo-pitch softball for many years, and most especially, loved spending time with kids, grandkids, family, and friends.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Amy (Josh) Krueger and Katrina Allen; six grandchildren, DeVante, Keyra, Gracyn, Addisyn Krueger, Jailey, and Jaya Allen, all of Tripoli; siblings, Jayne (Bob Aller) Seelhammer of Des Moines and Scott (Jody) Seelhammer of Garner; a nephew, Joshua Seelhammer of New Hampton; and a niece, Lydia Seelhammer of Garner.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
